Woman Killed in Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident on Berkshire Road

Bakersfield, California (June 22, 2022) – A female pedestrian died after she was struck Tuesday night by a suspected drunken driver in south Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The fatal crash happened shortly before 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, in the 1300 block of Berkshire Road.

Police said the woman was hit by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene.

First responders found the woman lying down on the roadway. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed.

The driver of the vehicle involved, Alexis Leon, 21, later returned to the crash site. Authorities determined that Leon was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.

Leon was ultimately arrested and booked into jail for two felonies and two infractions, including vehicular manslaughter.

Speed was also considered a factor in the crash. Leon is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, June 24.
