Frank Shoat Arrested after Kearny Mesa Crash at Convoy Street and Othello Avenue
Kearny Mesa, California (June 11, 2022) – Authorities arrested a driver for DUI after a crash that left a pedestrian dead on Thursday morning in Kearny Mesa.
According to the authorities, Frank William Shoat, 39, was driving a Tesla westbound on Othello Avenue when he ran a red light at the intersection of Convoy Street and hit a dip.
The Tesla became airborne and it struck a woman who was walking southbound on Convoy. The vehicle also collided with a tree and a traffic sign, before coming to a rest on a small embankment.
The woman, identified as Cassandra May, 40, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Shoat was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs.
Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.

The collision happened at Convoy Street and Othello Avenue when a Tesla heading west on Othello ran a red light at the intersection.
The Tesla hit a dip, and the impact sent the car flying into a woman who was walking southbound on Convoy.
It eventually came to a rest on a small embankment along the intersection.
The woman, a 40-year-old, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Tesla, a 39-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
