Visalia, California (June 30, 2022) – According to a California Highway Patrol report, 79-year-old Zada Lynn Yaryan has been identified as the driver killed in a crash involving a Caltrans vehicle Tuesday afternoon in the Central Valley.
The collision happened at around 3:47 p.m. on June 28, on Highway 198 at the Mooney Boulevard on-ramp.
Per the report, a Caltrans vehicle was parked on the highway’s shoulder where the on-ramp joins the roadway when, for an unknown cause, Yaryan’s car crashed into the rear of the vehicle. Yaryan was reportedly traveling eastward on the highway at the time.
Responding firefighters and paramedics declared Yaryan dead at the crash site.
It was not immediately known if the Caltrans car had occupants at the time and if they were other victims.
An investigation is underway.

The deadly Visalia car crash took place at around 3:47 p.m. on Highway 198 at the Mooney Boulevard on-ramp.
According to the report, a driver was heading eastbound on the highway when, for an unknown reason, crashed into the back of a Caltrans vehicle stopped on the highway’s shoulder where the on-ramp meets the roadway.
The driver of the car died at the scene.
It was unclear if the Caltrans vehicle was occupied at the time of the crash and if anyone else was hurt.
CHP is investigating the collision.
